Behind the Curtain with UAL’s drama society

UAL’s next production, put on by our talented drama society, is set to be Into the Woods. First performed in 1986, Into the Woods intertwines the worlds of multiple Brothers Grimm fairytales, notably Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk. UAL’s recent productions include the 2007 musical Legally Blonde, as well as new writing like Ambrosia. Yet, in spite of its age, Into the Woods feels exceedingly relevant.

When it comes to casting roles for the play, they have done so “gender-blind”, a choice that increases the inclusivity of the cast and crew, which makes sense for such a diverse university that stretches across the city of London, but also allows for unique and new angles to be told in a production that has been done multiple times before. It’s a story that follows many characters from many fairytales, but ultimately, it follows people of various backgrounds going through an experience that challenges and changes them. In a world of fiction and fantasy, this is the humanity of the show.

There is something for everyone in this production, and UAL’s Drama Society would love to welcome you to their version of Into the Woods this coming Spring.
